Bear Market Coffee emerged in 2009, born out of the challenges faced by Stephen and Ruth Deasy, newly qualified architects struggling to find work during the recession. Undeterred by adversity, they ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing their own stall in the Blackrock Market.
Their commitment to excellence in coffee production became the foundation of Bear Market Coffee. From green bean to cup, their processes and team take center stage. The dedication to delivering exceptional coffee remains unwavering.
With their in-house roastery, located within a converted church, they exercise meticulous control over the quality, taste, and balance of each bean. Gianluca, the Head of Coffee, spearheads the roastery, personally hand-roasting each batch. He establishes ethical relationships with farmers and suppliers to ensure the highest integrity of their coffee.
Behind the scenes, the team of Andrew, Liliia, and Lillith diligently pack orders for online customers. While their specialty coffee evolves seasonally, the ethos remains constant – sourcing only high-quality, ethically produced single-origin coffees.
Bear Market Coffee's Colombian House Roast and primary suppliers are certified B-corp organizations, maintaining a transparent and ethical supply chain. Beans are sourced globally, from countries like Colombia, Ethiopia, and Peru, and roasted in their Loring roaster, emphasizing quality over quantity in 12kg batches.
Gian's expertise shines during the roasting process, where controlled temperatures over 10 to 15 minutes bring out the unique flavor profiles. Small batch roasts ensure quality control. After destoning and degassing, each batch is taste-tested before shipment.
Originally a local favorite, Bear Market Coffee expanded to seven shops across Dublin, each uniquely designed by utilizing the architectural skills of the founders. Their plans for the future include a commitment to sustainability, with the Loring Smart roaster reducing emissions by 80% and a goal to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2025.
Further steps on their eco-friendly journey include a fully electric delivery fleet, carbon-neutral packaging, and sourcing beans through environmentally friendly farming practices. All these elements converge to offer a beautiful, sustainable, and ethically grown coffee experience, inviting customers to enjoy Bear Market Coffee at home.
