Founded by Noortje Vlutters and Inge Bulthuis, Back to Black is an Amsterdam-based company comprising a coffee roastery, two coffee bars, a bakery, and an SCA training academy. The duo, friends since the age of 12, established Back to Black in 2014, venturing into coffee roasting in 2015 and online sales in 2016. As the popularity of their homemade pies and cakes soared in 2017, they opened a bakery within the roastery. Subsequent years saw the addition of another coffee bar in 2017 and a training center in 2020, providing Specialty Coffee Association training and international certifications.
With a focus on sustainability, Back to Black makes environmentally conscious choices, from using organic detergent to selecting a green energy supplier. Their commitment extends beyond personal choices to consider the impact on the world and the people around them.
Passionate about craftsmanship, they started roasting coffee in 2015, continually seeking exceptional beans with distinct characteristics. Careful selection of green bean importers, who promote sustainable farming practices, ensures a responsible supply chain. Transparency is a key principle for Back to Black, aiming to make every step of the coffee production process, from cherry to cup, as clear as possible for consumers. This approach aligns with their belief in fostering more sustainable coffee production.
